West Hartford Library To Take A Look At Yemen

An Ivy League academic scholar will host a virtual program on the war-torn, Middle Eastern country on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — An Ivy League academic and author will discuss the unique and troubled history of the middle eastern country of Yemen at a West Hartford library event Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Sponsored by West Hartford's Noah Webster Library, the Yemen program is a virtual one slated from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. via online sources.

The program is free, but registration is required. Those who register online must provide and email address and then log-in and call-in information will be sent out.

The event is being hosted by Asher Orkaby, PhD, an associate research scholar at Princeton University’s Transregional Institute and lecturer at Harvard University.

He earned his PhD from Harvard University in International History and Middle Eastern Studies and is the author of "Beyond the Arab Cold War: The International History of the Yemen Civil War, 1962-68."

Orkaby is also the author of "Yemen: What Everyone Needs to Know."

Over the course of the current conflict in Yemen, he has contributed regularly to Foreign Affairs, The National Interest, and many other policy publications and has commented on both English and Arabic media such as CSPAN, al-Jazeera and al-Arabbiya.
