According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Mallach would deposit union funds in the form of checks, which were generally dues money collected by the American School for the Deaf and paid to the union from members’ paychecks.

In the course of depositing these checks, Mallach, as evidenced by the deposit slips, would receive cash back from the teller so that the full amount of the checks were not deposited into the union’s account, according to the warrant.
