West Hartford Man Charged With Illegally Growing/Selling Pot: WHPD

Local law enforcers seized 31 illegal cannabis plants from a 38-year-old West Hartford man's residence.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A local man will appear in court next week after being charged recently for growing illegal marijuana at his residence and aiming to sell more than the legal amount.

According to the West Hartford Police Department, Luke Kist, 38, of West Hartford, was charged last week with possession with intent to distribute 1 kilogram or more of cannabis and possession of greater than 5 ounces of cannabis.

Kist was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Thursday, Sept. 28.

According to the WHPD, the department received an initial complaint Aug. 23 about marijuana being grown in the years of a residence in West Hartford.

As a result, the department's Community Support Unit investigated.

The unit's probe revealed several mature marijuana plants could be seen by the public in the yard of the residence.

Last Thursday, Sept. 14, police said West Hartford police and the Statewide Narcotics Task Force executed a search and seizure warrant.

Authorities said about 31 marijuana plants were seized from the unidentified residence.

Police reminded residents that Connecticut residents over the age of 21 can legally possess and consume marijuana, only. More information is available at this link.

There are regulations and license requirements about who can sell large-scale supplies of legal recreational cannabis.
