West Hartford Police Going After Distracted Drivers
The WHPD has announced a crackdown on motorists using their phones while driving, part of an overall motorist/pedestrian safety initiative.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — In a town already at war with unsafe driving and concerned about pedestrian safety, local police are also reminding the community they want you off your phones while behind the wheel.
The West Hartford Police Department announced recently it is all in with the national "U Drive. U Text. U Pay" law enforcement campaign against distracted driving, with April being National Distracted Driving Month.
So far, police said they've stopped at least 465 motorists on local roads this year regarding suspected distracted driving.

"West Hartford PD is committed to enforcing the motor vehicle laws and making the roads safer for everyone in town," wrote the WHPD.
Police did offer up some safety tips for motorists to avoid a potentially costly interaction with local law enforcers.
They include:
• When you get behind the wheel, put your phone away.

• Activate the "Do Not Disturb” feature on your phone before driving.
• If you need to send a text, pull over and park your car in a safe location or give your phone to a passenger to respond to messages.
