West Hartford Police Hold 'Active Shooter' Training at Middle School

The training drills took place at Bristow Middle School on Tuesday.

If you saw some police activity around Bristow Middle School on Tuesday, there was nothing to be alarmed about, West Hartford police were taking advantage of February vacation and conducting “active shooter” training drills, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reports that while the drills took place inside the school, some police cars were parked outside the school. SWAT personnel acted as role players and evaluators and some fire department members also took part in the drill.

West Hartford Assistant Police Chief Daniel Coppinger told the Courant that “real-world, if we did have a situation at a school, everyone from all the different divisions would respond,” so all department members, including detectives and community relations officers, participate in the training.
