West Hartford Police: Mother Hid Heroin in 3-Year-Old's Pocket to Avoid Arrest
Police arrested a couple who brought their children with them to purchase heroin on Friday.

A couple was arrested on drug charges Friday in West Hartford after bringing their children, ages 6 and 3, with them to purchase heroin and the mother admitted to hiding the drugs in the 3-year-old’s jacket pocket, according to police.
William Kulas, 31, and Ingrid Walczyk, 29, were pulled over in a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and Walkley Road in West Hartford.
The officer quickly learned that Kulas was arrested last week by West Hartford Community Interaction Team for possession of 50 bags of heroin.

On the previous stop, Kulas was the only occupant in the vehicle but on Friday he was with his wife, Walczyk, and their two children, ages 6 and 3, according to police.
The officer questioned both parties and the mother, Walczyk, admitted that she had drug paraphernalia hidden on her and that she hid 14 bags of heroin in the jacket pocket of her 3-year-old to avoid getting arrested. Both Kulas and Walczyk also admitted taking the children with them to Hartford to purchase the heroin.

Kulas and Walczyk were each charged with possession of narcotics, conspiracy to possess narcotics and two counts of risk of injury to a child. Walczyk was also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to wear a seatbelt.
They were both were held on a $10,000 surety bond.
