West Hartford To Resume Yard Waste Pickup, Saturday Recycling Hours
Yard waste pickup and Saturday recycling center hours return in April for West Hartford residents.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford’s Department of Public Works will resume seasonal curbside yard waste collection later this month, aligning pickup with the town’s biweekly recycling schedule.
Collection begins the week of Monday, April 13, for residents on the A-week recycling schedule and April 20 for those on the B-week schedule.
The program will run through the end of October, according to public works officials.

Residents must place biodegradable bags or brown yard waste carts at the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day.
Officials asked residents not to set materials out overnight.

Accepted materials include yard trimmings, leaves, dead plant matter, thatch, pine needles, pine cones, acorns, and small twigs. Garden waste such as flowers, fruits, and vegetables is also permitted.
Materials must be placed in 30-gallon biodegradable brown bags, 95-gallon brown carts, or bundled as branches and brush no larger than 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length. Bundles must be secured with organic twine.
Saturday hours resume
Separately, the West Hartford Yard Waste & Recycling Center at 25 Brixton St. will resume Saturday hours beginning April 11.
The facility will be open Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon through mid-December, in addition to its year-round weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Access to the recycling center requires an annual permit.
Residents can apply online, with permits typically processed within two business days and mailed.
In-person purchases are also available at the public works office, 17 Brixton St., Tuesday through Friday during business hours.
The Recycling Center offers a range of services, including yard waste disposal, electronics and textile recycling, mattress recycling, and disposal of materials such as paint and scrap metal.
Free compost and wood chips are also available while supplies last.
Officials said the programs are part of ongoing efforts to support environmental sustainability in West Hartford.
