West Hartford Students Ditch Plans for 'Throwback' T-Shirts with Native American Imagery: Report

The Board of Education voted last year to allow the town's high schools to keep their team names but without any Native American imagery.

Student fan groups at both Conard and Hall high schools have called off plans to purchase and wear “throwback” T-shirts with imagery of the schools’ former Native American mascots, according to We-Ha.com.

We-Ha reports that leaders of the Conard fan group “The Red C” began taking orders for shirts that said “Return of the Tribe” with an Indian head image and planned to distance itself as an official school group, which would have been bound to the Board of Education’s decision last year to discontinue use of the Native American imagery.

However, students announced on Monday that they will keep The Red C name and will vote on a new design for the T-shirts, which will not include any Native American imagery, according to We-Ha.
