WEST HARTFORD, CT — A West Hartford-based university and a local Catholic high school are teaming up for a credi-sharing program that could earn local high schoolers college credit.

West Hartford’s University of Saint Joseph and Northwest Catholic High School have established a "concurrent enrollment program" through which NWC students earn USJ credit for designated high school courses.

"Each year NWC and USJ will specify NWC courses to be taught the following academic year by designated NWC faculty," reads a joint statement by both schools.
"USJ will review and approve the course syllabus, curriculum and NWC faculty as being equivalent to a specified USJ course."

NWC faculty who are approved to teach NWC/USJ concurrent enrollment courses will be recognized as a USJ Faculty Fellow, according to the announcement.

“USJ is excited to embark on this wonderful partnership with Northwest Catholic and provide their students with the opportunity to take college level classes,” said Rhona Free, president of University of Saint Joseph.

“We strive to continually enhance the educational experience of our students,” said Northwest Catholic High School Associate Principal Jennifer Montoney. “Our collaboration with University of Saint Joseph allows us to provide college level classes with college approved curriculum and teachers.”

Students will receive USJ credit for the designated USJ course number and title and will receive a USJ transcript and certificate at the end of each course.
