New WeHa Motorcycle Cop Hits The Streets This Week
The WHPD is celebrating 100 years of law enforcement on two wheels this fall.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Long before "Jon" and "Ponch" introduced America to the world of motorcycle police officers on the TV show "CHiPs," the West Hartford Police Department had a two-wheeled unit of its own.
That component of local law enforcement will celebrate 100 years this fall and, this week, the WHPD welcomed its latest member to the WHPD's Motor Unit — Jeremy Allen.
Allen started work atop his WHPD motorcycle this week, a byproduct of a recently completed training regiment designed to transform beat cops to motorcycle cops.

According to the WHPD, Allen had to complete 80 hours of training via the Basic Police Motorcycle Training Course offered by the Hartford Police Department's Traffic Division.
It's not easy.

"This course has long been said to be one of the most difficult courses you can take as a law enforcement officer," wrote the WHPD.
