WHPD's 'Citizens Police Academy' Seeks Applicants

The West Hartford PD program allows residents to get a sneak peek at the department and, possibly, think about a career in the field.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The West Hartford Police Department is accepting applications for the “Behind the Badge” Citizens Academy, which just might help someone decide to become a law enforcer.

The academy begins Wednesday, Sept. 25, and will end Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Classes meet once a week (every Wednesday) for eight consecutive weeks from 6 to 9 p.m. at the West Hartford Police Department, 103 Raymond Road, West Hartford.

The academy is specifically designed to introduce the community to the reality of a career in law enforcement.

Anyone over the age of 21 can apply and candidates will be asked to submit to a background check.

The purpose of each class topic is to familiarize residents with the procedures, practices, problems, concerns, and challenges police officers face.

"Through education, our goal is to allow our citizens to be better informed on what our police department has to offer," wrote the WHPD.
