Woman Accused of Killing Boyfriend in West Hartford Rejects Plea Deal
Angela Grasso, 28, who admitted to shooting her boyfriend in self-defense, opts for trial by jury.

A bail bondswoman from Plainville accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend in West Hartford rejected a plea offer on Tuesday and instead opted take her chances with a jury in a trial that could take place in February or March of next year, according to the Hartford Courant.
Angela Grasso, 28, appeared in court on Tuesday in a pre-trial hearing for the April 9 shooting death of Jose Mendez, who was her boyfriend. Police have said that Grasso admitted to shooting Mendez while they were riding in a car near Shoprite on Prospect Avenue.
Grasso told police that she shot Mendez in self-defense after he threatened to harm her and her children.

Grasso was originally charged with manslaughter but state prosecutor Thomas Garcia upped the charge to murder on April 24, according to the Courant.
Grasso’s lawyer, Walter D. Hussey, told the Courant that they are both “confident that the truth will come out at trial… We cannot wait for the whole story to be told.”
