Driver Charged In Fatal Fiery Crash On I-95 In West Haven

The driver faces several charges, including manslaughter and operating under the influence, in connection with the fatal crash.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A Milford woman faces several charges, including manslaughter and operating under the influence, in connection with a fiery crash that killed a Georgia man last year on I-95 in West Haven, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports police said Amy Romano, 50, is accused of driving drunk and aggressively when her vehicle struck a disabled 1970 Plymouth Duster that was parked in the median around 10:45 p.m. on April 9, 2022. Luis Martinez, 21, of Georgia, was killed in the crash.

The Plymouth Duster became engulfed in flames after the crash, Connecticut State Police said at the time. Martinez, who was the front passenger in the Plymouth Duster, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Romano is accused of driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.12, above the legal limit of 0.08, according to the Register.

Romano was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, use of drug paraphernalia, operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to drive in proper lane, and reckless driving. She was released after posting a $140,000 bond with a court date of Sept. 27, according to state judicial records.
