Former West Haven Mayor Launches New Party To Try & Reclaim Spot
Former Mayor Ed O'Brien, who previously said he would seek the Democratic nomination, announced he is launching a new political party.
WEST HAVEN, CT — Former West Haven Mayor Ed O’Brien is running as an independent candidate in his latest attempt to reclaim the city’s top spot, according to the New Haven Register.
The Register reports O’Brien is launching the Action & Accountability Party, which he filed paperwork for as an independent party.
O’Brien, who served two terms as mayor, previously said he would seek the Democratic nomination for the municipal election in November.

O’Brien lost to current Mayor Nancy Rossi in the 2017 and 2019 Democratic primary elections. He also lost to Rossi as a write-in candidate in the 2017 municipal election.
There is a growing list of candidates vying for the mayor’s position in West Haven.

Rossi is running for a third term and John Lewis, who was O’Brien’s executive assistant, is also a Democratic candidate for mayor.
City Councilman Barry Lee Cohen is running for the Republican Party’s nomination, and Planning and Zoning Commissioner Steven Mullins recently announced he would make a fourth run for mayor.
