West Haven officials have taken several steps to mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus, including closing city buildings and departments to the public. Mayor Nancy Rossi has also issued an emergency order that closed all city playgrounds and playscapes.

The city closed the 1.5-mile beach walkway, also known as the boardwalk, to discourage the spread of the new coronavirus, officials announced Monday. The beach walk stretches from Bradley Point to Sandy Point.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the city parks that remain open for fresh air and exercise, provided they follow the necessary social distancing health policy of keeping a minimum of 6 feet between yourself and non-family members.

West Haven schools

Schools will remain closed until at least April 20 per Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order. West Haven Public Schools began online "distance" learning last week. Superintendent of Schools Neil C. Cavallaro said the early feedback has been positive.
