Man Sentenced In Fatal Shooting In West Haven
A 21-year-old man was shot to death while inside a car at a gas station in West Haven in 2020, according to authorities.
WEST HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in West Haven in 2020, Ansonia/Milford State’s Attorney Margaret E. Kelley announced Friday.
Khalil Abdul-Hakeem, 21, of Bridgeport, was shot and killed in July 2020 in a gas station parking lot in West Haven.
Lamar Nalley, 29, was arrested in connection with his death following an investigation led by Detective Sean Faughnan of the West Haven Police Department. Kelley said evidence showed that Nalley fired a single shot into Abdul-Hakeem’s vehicle, striking him in the chest at close range.

Nalley agreed to a plea deal and pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter with a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and three counts of tampering with a witness. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison, suspended after 18 years served, followed by five years of probation, according to Kelley.
“During the sentencing hearing, Abdul-Hakeem was supported by members of his large, extended family,” officials wrote in a news release. “He was described by his mother as loyal, loving, and smart. In addition to his mother, he left behind two brothers and two sisters. His father passed away when he was only 3 years old.”
