McGee Wins West Haven Democratic Primary Election

Incumbent State Representative Treneé McGee faced a challenge from Joe Miller in the 116th House District.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Incumbent State Representative Treneé McGee won the Democratic primary election for the 116th House District, her campaign announced on Tuesday night.

McGee defeated challenger Joe Miller.

“Today’s victory was a team effort and one I am incredibly honored to have secured,” McGee said in a statement. “I am grateful to the voters of West Haven for affirming their trust in me to be their voice and advocate in Hartford. This past session I worked to champion the issues that matter most to our community.”

McGee was first elected in December when she won the special election to fill the vacant seat following the resignation of Michael DiMassa in October.

McGee has been a “powerful advocate during her first term in office,” according to the news release.

“She was a co-sponsor of the historic H.B. 5001, which is a comprehensive bill aimed at addressing the children’s mental health crisis in Connecticut,” the news release states. “Rep. McGee also championed the historic tax cuts which passed this session, providing relief to residents across the 116th district at a time when they need it most.”

McGee is the youngest Black woman to serve in the Connecticut House of Representatives and the first Black state legislator from West Haven, according to the release.
