Mock Crash Drill To Be Held In West Haven

Officials are advising residents of increased emergency vehicle activity that will be related to a mock crash drill in West Haven.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Officials are advising residents of a mock crash drill that will take place at West Haven High School on Tuesday morning.

The West Haven Fire Department will conduct the drill to “enhance preparedness and response capabilities in emergency situations.”

The drill will take place at 9 a.m. at West Haven High School at 1 Circle Street.

“The purpose of this drill is to show students the dangers of impaired, intoxicated, distracted, or reckless high-speed driving and to promote safe choices during prom season and throughout the year in general,” officials wrote in a news release. “This drill also allows our members to practice both rescue and medical aid techniques to those who have been involved in motor vehicle accidents.

“The drill will include the use of specialized equipment to extricate victims from vehicles and include actors portraying victims with simulated injuries. Residents in the vicinity of the drill may notice increased emergency vehicle activity, but there is no cause for alarm as this is only a simulation.”

The agencies that will be involved in the drill include the West Haven Fire Department, West Haven Police Department, West Shore Fire District, West Haven Board of Education, American Medical Response, West Haven Emergency Reporting System (ERS), Yale New Haven Hospital Center For EMS SHARP Team, Yale New Haven Hospital, Bruneau’s Garage, and the West Haven Funeral Home.
