UPDATE: Motorcycle Operator Dies from Injuries in Monday Night Crash

West Haven Police said the motorcycle collided with a Mercedes late Monday night.

UPDATE, 8 p.m.: West Haven Police say the motorcyclist has died from injuries sustained in last night's accident. He has been identified as Mark Pinto, 46, of West Haven.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A motorcycle operator was critically injured in a crash with a Mercedes Monday night on Captain Thomas Boulevard in West Haven.

West Haven Police responded to the scene, at the intersection of Captain Thomas Boulevard and Kelsey Avenue, at about 10:30 p.m. Once it was determined that the motorcycle operator suffered critical injuries, the department’s Major Accident Squad also responded to continue the investigation, according to police.

Police said that a preliminary investigation by the Traffic Division determined the following: The motorcycle was traveling west on Captain Thomas Blvd at a speed in excess of the posted limit. The Mercedes was turning north onto Kelsey from Captain Thomas Blvd from the left turn lane. Impact to the Mercedes was in the front end with the left side of the motorcycle, the motorcycle after colliding with the Mercedes continued onto the sidewalk of Kelsey/Captain Thomas adjacent to the “Turks” parking lot and struck the signal control box ejecting the operator off the motorcycle.

Witnesses told police that the Mercedes had the green turn arrow and the speeding motorcycle appeared to be trying to “beat” the red light and struck the Mercedes, which was turning with a green arrow.

Police have not released any information about the motorcycle operator, who is in critical condition with severe injuries, at this time.
