Obituary: Wayne Hitchcock, 66, of West Haven

He worked freelance doing illustrations for numerous magazines and many murals, including the murals at Jimmie's Restaurant in West Haven.

Wayne Alan Hitchcock, 66, of West Haven, passed away on December 23, 2016. Wayne was born in New Haven on November 22, 1950, son of the late Whitney and Dorothy (Melton) Hitchcock.

He leaves behind his loving friend and companion for 36 years Maggi Fitzgerald and her family Jennifer (Jeff) Tavella, D.J. Suraci, Rosemary (Mike) Fitzgerald, Ray (Deni) Fitzgerald and his "step grandchildren" Jamie and Jacquelyn, but especially "the boys" Jack and Wiley.

Also survived by many wonderful friends he considered to be like family, including his lifelong Goldman cottage friends.

Wayne attended Paier Art School and after graduation worked doing framing and restoration at a New Haven Gallery. He worked freelance doing illustrations for numerous magazines and many murals, most notably his murals that showed his love of Savin Rock at Jimmie's Restaurant.

Wayne was an avid collector of all things associated with art and antiques. One of his favorite past times for decades was sending and receiving hand drawn envelopes "Vlopes" through the mail with his friend Terry Davis. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

In honoring Wayne's wishes there will be no services. Arrangements are in care of the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Donations in his name can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society (nationalmssociety.org) or to the Halfway Home Rescue Inc. of CT. (halfwayhomerescue.org).
