WEST HAVEN, CT — The 2019 municipal election is heating up in West Haven and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

West Haven Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

Gary Donovan, 57, is running for City Council At-Large as a Democrat.

The single most pressing issue facing our town/district is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Our shoreline and its decline and I plan to bring the beauty of our shore back to its native state.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Don’t know my candidates well enough to state my differences but I am here for the citizens of West Haven. I have no personal agenda involved and I will work with anyone, D/R/I, that is working for the betterment of our city. I respect others opinions as I hope they will respect mine

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have always been in a leadership role throughout my life where I learned to be a listener not a dictator. I try to work things out between the differences that both sides have and my integrity and word is what I thrive on. I am a volunteer on West Haven United and have been involved on beach cleanups, movies on the green, repainting the horseshoe pits and bocce courts at the grove. I have been a coach of all sports for over 20 years and am currently Vice President of WH American Legion baseball.

The best advice ever shared with me was ...

Treat people the way you want to be treated. (My Mom told me this)

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I don’t make promises I can’t keep and I will do my absolute best to move West Haven forward. I will continue to be a volunteer in our community and to keep making our city sustainable.
