In their endorsement of Southworth, the West Haven Professional Firefighters said that “The men and women of Local 1198 are dedicated public safety servants to the residents and visitors of West Haven. While the safety of those we protect isn’t political, having the backing of elected officials who understand our views is of the upmost importance to us. Mike Southworth has an extensive and experienced background serving in the public safety arena for close to 30 years. The public safety arena in relation to politics has evolved drastically in recent times. For that, we chose to endorse a candidate who not only understands the new landscape faced by those in public safety, but also for the constituents in which we serve.”

Southworth, a firefighter in West Haven for the past 19 years, said he was honored to have the unanimous endorsement and support of his fellow firefighters.

“I will always support our first responders and listen to their concerns when drafting and voting for bills that fundamentally overhaul how we protect our communities,” said Southworth. “All of our first responders and frontline workers need more support for lawmakers. These men and women go to work every single day prepared to save lives and risk their own doing so. Our state government needs to have their backs and I will fight to make sure our firefighters and first responders are being listened to in Hartford.”
