West Haven Woman Loses Engagement Ring, Asks For Public's Help

A woman who received an engagement ring from her husband during his deployment to Iraq says she may have lost it at a Bridgeport restaurant.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A local woman is asking for help after she lost her engagement ring recently. Katelyn Moore said she watched football at a friend's house in Monroe, then stopped by Drumstick BBQ in Bridgeport around 7 p.m. Saturday, but then couldn't find the ring when she went home. She went back out to the restaurant's parking lot at 2 a.m. but couldn't find the ring.

Moore said she received the ring from her husband while he was deployed in Iraq in spring 2009. She said he "worked so hard on the details of it" and that he made arrangements with a jewelry store in Salado, TX while he was deployed.

"He knew I liked to check the mail at the mailbox center at the apartment complex where he lived so he put the ring box in there ahead of time and when he got home from work he said, 'Hey, Kate, did you check the mail yet today?' He made a Build-a-Bear dressed in an Army uniform and recorded a message so that when you press the bears paw it was him saying, 'Katelyn, will you marry me?'

"Even though (the ring) is just an object, it is very sentimental to me since it has been with me for the past 10 years through many ups and downs and most recently the birth of our first child. I always glance at it and it reminds me of my husband and his love for me. It just feels so strange to not have it on my finger anymore."

Moore said she reported the ring missing to Bridgeport police.

"The only thing I can think of is it may have slipped off my finger since it was so cold out," she said.
