The 23rd Annual Weston Memorial Day Race Needs Your Help -- Sponsors and Volunteers Needed for Pre-Event Activities -

Weston Memorial Day 5K Road Race is currently looking for volunteers and sponsors for this year's event planned for May 28.

WESTON, Conn., March 28, 2016 -- 2016 is shaping up to be a banner year for the Weston Memorial Day 5K Road Race and Walk scheduled for Saturday, May 28. Last year a record number of participants helped raise $50,000 for the Weston High School PTO’s largest fundraiser with proceeds going to current and future school enhancements and educational initiatives.

Last year more than 830 registrants put on their running shoes for the race/walk including children from kindergarten through 5th grade who participated in the Kids Fun Run, a 100-meter sprint, and 400 and 1,600 meter runs around Weston High School’s track with an inflatable obstacle course.

James Bloom of Weston won the men’s event last year, followed by Emerson DaSilva of Danbury and David Berger of Weston, who came in second and third. Meredith Anand of Weston won the women’s event. And Emily Zavinsky of Wilton and Maria Lucia Moreas of Danbury took second and third place respectively in the women’s event.

“We’ve already lined up a number of great sponsors for this year’s event, however, we need more volunteers to help attract additional sponsors,” said Roberto Ordonez, race committee and sponsorship chair. “We only need about an hour once a week from a number of volunteers to help raise funds for this important cause. As the largest fundraiser of the year, it is important for everyone to contribute to the day’s events – either through participation, volunteering or by donation. The event is totally self-funded and we need your support.”

Event organizers are also looking for a Website designer to freshen up the event Website – www.weston5k.com, a graphic designer for collateral materials like flyers and yard signs, a logistics person to help with coordinating various sub-committees and a flyer chair to coordinate the printing and mailing of flyers for the event.
