Music for a Holiday Mood: 'Songs of Thanksgiving' and a Festive Christmas Concert

Music on the Hill in Weston anticipates the holidays with concerts in November and December.

This Sunday, November 9th, the Music on the Hill Festival Chorus performs songs of celebration and thanks by American composers old and new. Artistic Director David H. Connell conducts a program that ranges from the 19th century’s Southern Harmony to the contemporary “Breaths” by Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock fame.

“Songs of Thanksgiving” features Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia” and “I Will Sing Unto the Lord“ by Imant Raminsh. Other works include contemporary renderings of familiar hymns and spirituals; “The Road Home” by Stephen Paulus; a setting of Emily Dickinson’s “Hope” by local composer Edward Thompson; and the conductor’s own “Dancing Acclamation.”

“Songs of Thanksgiving” will begin at 3:00 PM at Norfield Congregational Church in Weston, 64 Norfield Road. Tickets are $20 at the door; children are free.
