American Red Cross Launches Campaign to Reduce Home Fire Deaths
The American Red Cross states families have less than 2 minutes to escape a home fire and therefore should practice drills bi-annually.

The American Red Cross has launched a campaign to reduce deaths and injuries caused by home fires by 25 percent in five years. The American Red Cross stated in a release that there are two ways to substantially reduce the risk of death or injury in a home fire.
The first way is to install smoke alarms on every level of your home inside bedrooms and sleeping areas. The Red Cross offers a program to install free smoke alarms. Visit http://www.redcross.org/ct/schedule-a-visit to request a safety visit, or call 1-877-287-3327 and press option 1.
The second way to reduce injuries and deaths from home fires is to practice fire drills at home to escape a burning home before it’s too late. Fire experts state that families have less than 2 minutes to escape a home fire without injury. Use this Home Fire Escape Plan worksheet to plan your evacuation and practice it at least twice a year as a family.
