Barlow Teacher and Student Will Be Honored as Innovators

The finalists will be recognized at the Women of Innovation awards gala

REDDING, CT — A local teacher and student have been named finalists in the 15th Annual Women of Innovation Awards.

Dr. Katherine Nuzzo, a chemistry teacher, and student Annika Morgan, both from Joel Barlow High School, have been recognized for their work. The awards from the Connecticut Technology Council honor outstanding women in science, technology, engineering and math fields from across the state.

Nuzzo has taught for 32 years and currently instructs students in various levels of chemistry, while also serving Joel Barlow High School’s science symposium coordinator and research advisor. Nuzzo has facilitated the leadership roles of young women in the Sikorsky STEM Challenge and the Northeast Regional High School Science Bowl.

Morgan, who will be studying biomedical engineering at Dartmouth College this fall, is a captain of the Science Bowl team, a member of the varsity math team, and a founding member of the Youth Mental Health First Aid support team. She is also an EMT on the ambulance and tutors EMT students.

The finalists will be recognized at the Women of Innovation awards gala at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville on March 27 from 5:00 - 8:30 p.m.
