
July jobs figures showed a rise in unemployment throughout Connecticut, and Redding and Weston were not spared in the bad news. The two towns have the highest respective unemployment rates of the year, while the rate dropped one-tenth of one percent in Easton.
“The phrase ‘worst economic downturn since the Great Depression’ is used so often, we’ve become immune to the words. But they’re true. So, it should come as a surprise to no one that pulling the country and our state out of that downturn is hard. Really hard,” said . “But let me be clear: we are making progress, and I have every confidence we’ll continue to make progress.”

In Connecticut, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 8.5 percent and the national rate is 8.3 percent.
