During the 5-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which began Wednesday and ended at midnight, Connecticut State Police handed out more than 4,750 citations.

While that number may sound staggering, for the sake of context it’s actually a decrease from 2014, when about 4,950 citations were issued, according to numbers released by State Police Monday morning.

However, the big news from the data released is that the number of accidents reported this year were almost down in half from 2014.

In 2014, 934 accidents were reported and 97 resulted in injury, but in 2015 the number of accidents was 513 and 59 involved injury.

State Police added additional patrols throughout the entire state of Connecticut during the holiday weekend, and were especially cracking down on drunk driving offenses.

Here is a complete breakdown of the 2015 numbers:

Speeding arrests, 1,204

Seatbelt violations, 432

Other hazardous moving violations, which includes unsafe lane change, following too closely, cell phone usage, texting and failing to signal, 3,160 citations.

DUI arrests, 46

Accidents investigated, 513

Accidents with injury, 59

Fatalities, 1 reported

In 2014 during the Thanksgiving holiday there were 1,106 speeding citations, 314 seatbelt infractions issued, 3,538 hazardous moving violations, 52 DUI arrests, and a staggering 934 accidents, including 97 with injuries and one fatality.
