The public is invited to tour the grounds and trails of Highstead during its annual open house on Saturday, June 2 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.This free event features tours, light refreshments, and a lecture by Bill Labich on the importance of regional conservation partnerships (RCPs), and how these collaborative efforts will advance the Wildlands & Woodlands vision.  The discussion will focus on rethinking the ways in which we conserve land, and how local efforts fit into a regional vision.

Highstead’s trails will be open for hiking from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Highstead Ecologist, Ed Faison, and Highstead Landscape and Collections Manager, Kathleen Kitka, will lead a guided tour from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. They will walk through Highstead’s Laurel collection and research sites while discussing Highstead’s science program.  Visitors are encouraged to wear clothing appropriate for a woodland walk.

"For more than 30 years, Highstead's gorgeous woodlands, trails, and unique laurel collection has been a valued part of the Redding community. Over the last several years, Highstead has expanded its impact to become a leader of a regional conservation initiative for New England," said Highstead Conservation Director Emily Bateson. "We invite our friends and neighbors to learn about our growing mission, enjoy our land, and join us in ensuring that future generations enjoy it, too."
