Sports Diplomacy Here and Abroad: How Basketball Can Change the World

What do Belfast, Northern Ireland; Havana, Cuba; Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; and Bridgeport, Connecticut have in common? 29 year-old Westonite Mike Evans, who founded a nonprofit organization that uses basketball as a means of diplomacy around the world, will tell Weston Kiwanis this Saturday how basketball has achieved positive social change in all of these places.

Mr. Evans will speak at the Weston Kiwanis meeting this coming Saturday, April 21, at Norfield Parish Hall at 8:30 a.m.  Breakfast will be served and members of the public are welcome.  His story  includes high-stakes interactions with the Irish Republican Army, the Dalai Lama, and covert operations in Cuba and Mexico. Evans will also focus on his upcoming work in Bridgeport, and how the lessons he’s learned abroad will prove helpful in a local context.
