Answering Lincoln's call for "300,000 more", over 1,000 Fairfield County men gathered in Bridgeport to join the 17th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. Edmund Schmidt, will speak about the history of this Regiment, their role in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and stories of their capture and imprisonment in the South. Edmund Schmidt, is currently Chairman of the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation and former president of the Darien Historical Society.
