Knitting for a Cause at Easton Public Library
Easton Teams up with Project Linus to make blankets for needy children

The Easton Public Library is looking for children and teens (4th grade and up) as well as adults who knit and those who are willing to learn, to help make blankets for Knitting For a Cause, on Tuesday, November 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Knitters will be helping to create squares that will be pieced together to make blankets for critically ill children and children in emergency situations. The blankets will be distributed via Project Linus, a nonprofit organization that has distributed over 7,138,349 handmade blankets since 1995.
This special session will offer an opportunity for beginner and advanced knitters to work on the squares, learn to knit, share techniques, and ask questions. Yarn will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Some #6, 7 and 8 knitting needles will be available to use, but participants should bring their own needles if they have them.
The Easton Yarnsmiths, a monthly adult group that evolved from last’s year’s Knitting for a Cause, will be helping to teach this year’s new knitters. Last year, participants from ages 9-99 created enough squares for three blankets to be donated to Project Linus.

“This is a great opportunity to give back and to work together as a community to do so,” says Children’s/Teen Librarian, Elizabeth Portillo.
The squares can then be finished at home and brought to the Library. If you would like to help make blankets but cannot attend, we will welcome donations of knitted or crocheted squares (7-inch by 7-inch), ideally knitted with #6, 7, or 8 knitting needles. All finished squares can be dropped off at the circulation desk by December 18th.
