Naked Man Doing Drugs in Motel Before Truck Escapade: Redding PD

'He just decided to take his clothes off and run around on Route 7,' Redding Police Chief Mark O'Donnell has reported.

REDDING, CT — The naked man who jumped onto, and off of, a moving pickup truck was doing drugs in a motel room just prior to his escapade, police now say.

The Redding Police Department is reporting that John Rodas, 34, was smoking crack in a room at the Days Inn in Redding before venturing naked onto Route 7. He then hopped aboard a slow-moving pickup truck, later jumping off and sustaining serious injuries to his head.

"He just decided to take his clothes off and run around on Route 7," Redding Police Chief Mark O'Donnell told Patch.

Rodas has a history of violent and peculiar behavior. In 2017, Rodas allegedly bit his roommate's face in a dispute over money. Two years earlier, police report that he sliced his brother with a box cutter, also following an argument over money.

Redding police are investigating the crime scene at the Days Inn, where O'Donnell confirmed the crack cocaine was found. The Wilton PD is investigating the circumstances of Rodas' ill-fated truck ride on Route 7.
