School Briefs: July 29

Many residents from Weston, Redding and Easton shine nationwide.

Ithaca College recently released its dean’s list for the Spring 2011 semester, and two local students were among those named: Danielle Sessler, daughter of Keith and Jacqueline Sessler of Redding, and Hannah Dubner, daughter of Peter and Mary Jane Dubner of Easton.

Two Eastonites were recently named to the dean’s list for Champlain College’s Spring 2011 semester: Alexander May, who graduated from the school and majored in electronic game and interactive development, and Alex Langlois, who is majoring in computer networking and information security.

Alexander G. Aitoro, of Weston, recently graduated from Colby College, receiving a bachelor of arts degree. He’s the son of David and Janet Aitoro, and graduated with distinction.

Jane C. Campbell, of Weston, was named to the dean’s list at St. Lawrence University for the Spring 2011 semester. She’s a member of the Class of 2012, and is an English majoring, minoring in film and representation studies. In order to be named to the dean’s list, students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.6.

Three local students were named to the dean’s list at Choate Rosemary Hall for the spring term: Rachel Mellon, of Redding; Jacqueline Bernstein, of Weston; and Carolyn Bernstein, of Weston.

Denison University recently held its commencement ceremonies, and three local students were among those named: Gwen Benson, of Redding, earned a bachelor of arts degree with a double major in art history and Spanish. She was the recipient of the Founders Award and she spent a semester studying abroad with the Madrid Program in Spain; Mary Allen, of Weston, earned a bachelor of arts degree with a major in economics and a minor in Greek. He was the recipient of the Founders Award and studied abroad with the Athens Program for a semester in Greece; and Katherine Steinharter, of Weston, earned a bachelor of arts degree with a major in communication and a double minor in studio art and Spanish. A dean's list student, she is a member of Rho Lambda, the national sorority leadership recognition society; Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honorary; Sigma Delta Pi, the national Spanish honor society; and National Scholars Honor Society. She was a recipient of the Orlando Taylor Top Student Paper in Communication and Alumni Award. Steinharter studied abroad with the Sydney Internship Program in Australia. She was a member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Relay for Life, Yoga Club, Zumba, Panhellenic Council, an August orientation leader and a prospective student host. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Stephen Barna, an Eastonite who is a sophomore at Southern Methodist University, was named to the honor roll for the Spring 2011 semester. In order to be named, students must be in the top 10 percent of their school.
