Special Probation Sentence for Easton Teen Center Director Who Threatened Boys

Andrew Barer pleaded guilty to breach of peace in connection with the case.

The former Outback Teen Center youth program director who New Canaan police accused of using vulgar language to students at Saxe Middle School, received a six-month suspended sentence and granted participation in a special probation program that could dismiss the second-degree breach of peace charge if he successfully meets the program terms.

Andrew Barer, 52, of Easton, also was banned from all New Canaan schools Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to the breach of peace charge, according to The Advocate. Judge William Wenzel approved the plea deal at Superior Court in Norwalk and granted Barer an 18-month accelerated rehabilitation program.

Hayes was arrested Feb. 27 following a police investigation that found he used several vulgar comments to a group of eight to 10 boys at the school cafeteria on Jan. 15.

Terms of the accelerated rehabilitation agreement include barring Barer not interact with minors; not enter any schools in New Canaan, and not have contact with the victims, complainants or their family members, according to court documents.
