Sponsors Needed for Weston's Annual Memorial Day Race -- Weston's Parent Teacher Organization Hopes to Break Last Year's Record --

WESTON, Conn., Feb. 23, 2015 -- It’s 15 degrees outside and there’s 18 inches of snow on the ground, but the folks behind the Weston Memorial Day 5K Road Race and Walk are busy raising money for the big event. The race is Weston High School PTO’s largest fundraiser, with proceeds going to current and future school enhancements and educational initiatives.

Last year more than 700 participants put on their running shoes for the race/walk. An additional 80 children from kindergarten through 5th grade participated in the Kids Fun Run that included a 100-meter sprint, and 400 and 1,600 meter runs around Weston High School’s track. Thousands have been raised in past years, event organizers hope to raise $50,000 this year.

“It’s great to see our neighbors and visitors from nearby towns come out on race day,” said Matthew Greene, sponsorship chairman. “As the largest fundraiser of the year, it’s important for everyone to contribute to the day’s events – either through participation, volunteering or by donation. The event is totally self-funded and we need your support.”

2015 marks the 22nd year this event has been hosted by Weston High School’s PTO. The PTO allocates proceeds from the event to fund a variety of enhancements to the school curriculum including, computer software, teacher training and equipment for the arts and athletic programs. In addition to registration fees, corporate and individual donations support the PTO’s mission for quality in education and further enhancement of Weston schools.

“In order to meet our fundraising goals, we are asking for sponsorships from businesses and individuals. By giving to this annual event you’ll be supporting Weston schools and helping us provide assistance to students and teachers,” said Roberto Ordonez, race committee chair. “Your donation will be recognized at our event in several ways. Depending on sponsorship level, your name will be placed on all materials and banners that publicize the event as well as announced at the event itself.
