2 Dogs Rescued From House Fire In Westport: FD

Fire officials said crews found heavy smoke on the first and second floors of the home when they arrived.

WESTPORT, CT — Firefighters rescued two dogs from a Westport home after a fire broke out early Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen said crews were called to a home on Whitney Street around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a house fire.

The caller reported smoke in the house, Cohen said. He noted responding crews did not come from their normal locations due to all units being assigned to storm-related calls at the time of the call.

Firefighters eventually found the fire traveling in the wall and ceiling of the home's kitchen, forcing them to open the ceiling spaces up and use a hose to extinguish all visible flames, Cohen said.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal's Office, Cohen said.
