2016 Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities Hosts Gala April 30

Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc. will hold its Annual Benefit Gala, BUILDING ON KIDS’ STRENGTHS, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Stamford Marriott. Dr. Lydia Soifer, Director of The Soifer Center for Learning and Child Development, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

At the 2016 Gala, Smart Kids with LD will present its Community Service Award to Betsy Beaumon, President of Benetech and Bookshare. Ms. Beaumon leads Benetech’s Global Literacy Program, and has spearheaded the ten-fold growth of Bookshare, a global, online library that provides materials at no cost for qualifying students with disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, blindness or low vision.

During the Gala celebration, the Fred J. Epstein Youth Achievement Awards will be given to a diverse group of student winners from throughout the United States. The awards recognize individual students’ remarkable talents and achievements, despite their struggles in school. The major Youth Achievement Award is for $1,000.

The evening’s Gala will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, wine auction, silent and live auction, and music by rock guitarist Dave Powers.

Among the exciting items on auction are:

· Lunch with Henry Winkler – actor, director, author and Smart Kids with LD Honorary Chairman.

· An at-home, three-course dinner with canapés for up to eight guests, prepared by Karen Hubrich, Executive Chef at the Pequot Yacht Club, Southport, Connecticut.

· Tickets to the Westport Country Playhouse, overnight stays at boutique hotels in Fairfield County, and a package from Carozza Fitness including a club membership, personal training sessions, and a kids’ fitness party.
