Is it summer theater time?

Yes, Virginia. Summer theaters in New England and elsewhere will open even if the weather doesn't cooperate! (If you're like I am, perhaps you're wondering if overnight frost and chilly temperatures will ever give way to seasonal warmth and sunshine!)

Even if my wool sweaters have not yet been replaced by the lighter-weight summer cottons, I am looking forward to attending Westport Country Playhouse's 2014 season opener this week, "A Song at Twilight" by Noel Coward.

Directed by the Playhouse's Artistic Director Mark Lamos, "A Song at Twilight" is produced in partnership with Hartford Stage.

This week I will also be meandering north to historic East Haddam, CT's Goodspeed Opera House for the opening of "Damn Yankees." This production bills itself as "The Red Sox version." What? No, actually if the truth be told, I was a Red Sox fan when I had my first publishing gig in Boston. In fact, the company had season tickets right on the first base line and when visiting dignitaries and local rainmakers weren't available, the entry-level players, such as myself, shared 'the love of the game' with her friends! I'm sure that Goodspeed's "Damn Yankees" will bring back fond memories of Fenway Park.

Last year's season didn't disappoint.
