Candidate Hwang Joins 'Friends' in Westport to Support Sherwood Island State Park

Tony Hwang attended the recent fundraiser hosted by Friends of Sherwood Island.

An announcement from state Rep. Tony Hwang’s campaign for state Senate (the fundraiser was for Friends of Sherwood Island, and this announcement doesn’t mean to imply that the group endorses Hwang):

Sherwood Island State Park is, without a doubt, one of Connecticut’s most beautiful assets. So it was a special treat for Tony Hwang to visit the park in Westport recently for Islandfest, a fundraiser hosted by Friends of Sherwood Island.

With excellent weather, the fundraiser was a perfect opportunity to connect with folks who share Hwang’s passion for the environment and to enjoy such a special place that we have worked so hard to preserve for future generations.

Friends of Sherwood Island is a group of dedicated volunteers who have been working together since 1995 to protect, preserve and enhance the natural treasure we call Sherwood Island State Park. The Islandfest fundraiser was held in the Nature Center, an inviting educational space which has served as a model for successful public-private partnerships since it opened in 2009.

“Friends of Sherwood Island — and especially the individuals who are at the heart of the organization — is to be commended for their commitment and dedication to living up to their mission,” Hwang said. “I’m proud to be one of their biggest fans.”

When it comes to the environment, Hwang has been a steadfast supporter and leader in the legislature. From fracking waste to protecting the fragile ecosystem of the Long Island Sound, his record as a responsible steward of our environment speaks for itself. In fact, it’s earned him the endorsement of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for the 28th Senate District.

“As your state senator, I will continue to celebrate our beautiful environment here at home with events like Sherwood Islandfest, and lead the fight for it up in Hartford, too,” Hwang said.

Special thanks to Friends of Sherwood Island Board Member Gene Borio for sharing his photos.

Currently in his 3rd term in the Connecticut General Assembly House of Representatives for the 134th District, which encompasses portions of Fairfield and Trumbull, state Rep. Tony Hwang is the ranking leader in the Government Administration and Elections Committee and a member of Public Safety & Security Committee and the Insurance and Real Estate Committee. He is a state Senate candidate for the 28th District, which includes the towns of Easton, Fairfield, Newtown, Weston, and Westport.
