Chabad Of Westport To Hold Grand Opening

Chabad of Westport serves Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk.

WESTPORT, CT — Chabad of Westport, which serves Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk, announced Thursday that they will be holding a Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, May 3 at 6 p.m. at their location on 79 Newton Turnpike in Westport.

Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe has already confirmed his attendance, according to a release. Other town officials and state legislators are expected to attend,

Chabad of Westport acquired the almost 3-acre parcel of land at 79 Newtown Turnpike in 2013. In 2016, the Town of Westport approved their plan to build a 14,000 square foot addition to the existing property, which was formerly The Three Bears Restaurant and to completely renovate 6,000 square feet of existing space at 79 Newtown Turnpike.

After two years of construction, the Grand Opening will be on May 3.

The entire community is invited to be a part of the Grand Opening of the new Chabad Jewish Center. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with dignitaries and town officials will be held promptly at 6pm followed by a Mezuzah Affixing, and the Ushering in of the Torahs, the most sacred book in the Jewish Religion. A buffet dinner, music and dancing will follow for the community.

Highlights of the new Chabad of Westport Jewish Center include a synagogue with a 300-person seating capacity, classrooms for Hebrew School and for Jewish learning, event spaces, a Jewish Library and Teen Center and a state-of-the-art commercial teaching kitchen.

The Building Committee is overseen by Westport Resident Kevin Rakin, of HighCape Partners, Inc. The committee includes Wilton Resident Peter Greenberg, who owns Able Construction, Inc. and did the construction of the project.

Westport resident Russ Greenberg of Altus Capital Partners, Kenny Gruder of Goldman, Gruder & Woods based in Norwalk and Westport Resident David Sussman, of Family Security Plan make up the remainder of the Building Committee. Robert Storm Architecture, Inc of Westport was the architect for the project.

Over 300 residents of Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk are expected to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony on May 3, which also happens to be on the Jewish Holiday of Lag B Omer.
