Community Rallies To Help Westport Family Displaced By Fire

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to aid Grace Frith and her daughter, Bria.

WESTPORT, CT — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to aid Grace Frith and her daughter, Bria, who were displaced by a fire that damaged their Westport home last week.

Frith, her daughter and an aunt were not hurt in the 6 a.m. fire on June 5 on Old Hill Road, but three Westport firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The town's Human Services Department and the American Red Cross are assisting the family, but they suffered the "complete loss of all personal possessions," according to Lori Freemon, who organized the GoFundMe effort.

"Impacted by that fire were Grace Frith, a single mom whose family lives out of the country, her daughter Bria, who is a current 7th grader at Coleytown Middle School and an Aunt who also lives with them," Freemon wrote. "They have lived in the Westport community for several years, and they need our help."

As of Wednesday afternoon, the campaign had nearly reached its $50,000 goal through donations from 600 people.

"All money raised will be used by this family to replace all that was lost, from clothing to household items to securing new housing - which is the most pressing need," Freemon wrote. "They got out of their house with only pajamas they were sleeping in."
