Contractor Killed at Westport Construction Site Remembered for Dedication to Hard Work

WESTPORT, CT — Herbert S. Grant, the 69-year-old Stratford construction contractor killed Tuesday at a site in Westport, is being remembered for his hard work and dedication to his craft.

His son, Bill Grant, an employee of the City of Norwalk, tells the Stamford Advocate that his father could build just about anything if it involved poured concrete. Herbert Grant founded the H. Grant Const. Co. in 1986.

He was killed Tuesday while working at a home at 1 Country Lane, when a chute from a cement truck struck him in the upper body. Grant, who would have turned 70 next month, had five children and 15 grandchildren. His wife, Nancy, predeceased him.
