Drainage Study of Westport's Dead Man's Brook Started This Week

BL Companies of Meriden will analyze streamflow, culverts and flooding, among other topics.

WESTPORT, CT — The town started a comprehensive analysis of Dead Man’s Brook and its tributaries, conducted by BL Companies of Meriden, on Nov. 11, according to Westport Public Works Director Steve Edwards.

The purpose of the study will be to analyze streamflow, culverts, flooding, and to make recommendations for long term improvements, according to Edwards. Field personnel will be making measurements and surveying culverts, pipes, catch basins, outfalls, and stream channels. The study is part of the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Relief Program awarded to the Town in March, 2016 and is expected to be completed in spring, 2017.

"Residents are advised that periodically, access to private property may be required in order for BL personnel to make measurements of the stream channel," Edwards wrote in a statement. "In these cases, personnel will attempt to contact residents in advance by knocking on doors to introduce themselves. In some instances, personnel may need to walk and survey the stream channel across several properties. All BL personnel will be clearly identified with high visibility clothing and name tags displaying the BL logo."
