Child Advocate at Rotary

Jill Bicks, a Westport resident and advocate for child welfare, will address the Westport Rotary Club  at noon on Tuesday, January 25, at the Inn at Longshore.

Bicks began volunteering as a child advocate in Connecticut in juvenile protection court in 2005.  Shortly thereafter, she was hired to run the program in Stamford Juvenile Court.  When the program was threatened with extinction as a result of state budget cuts in November 2009, Bicks sought and received permission from the Chief Judge of Connecticut to continue the program through a start-up nonprofit, Child Advocates of Connecticut, which relies on private, rather than state, funding.  She is now the Executive Director of the new organization.

Bicks practiced corporate litigation and family law in New York City before moving to Connecticut with her family.  She received her bachelor from Cornell University in 1985 and her JD from NYU University School of Law in 1988.
