GFA Boys Rally For 60-54 Win Over Hopkins School

Sean Obi has 24 points and 23 rebounds for the Dragons, who improve to 10-3 with their seventh straight victory

Greenwich's Sean Obi scored 24 points and grabbed 23 rebounds Saturday as the Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team rallied for a 60-54 victory over the Hopkins School.

It was the seventh straight win for GFA, which improved to 10-3 overall and 7-3 in the FAA. Hopkins dropped to 4-10. and 2-6.

In Doug Scott's two seasons as GFA coach, the Dragons have posted a 15-1 record in January after going 5-5 in December. GFA has climbed to second in the FAA standings and is ranked third in New England.

"The driving factor has been that I’ve had great talent transferring into the school in both years, but it takes all of those Christmas break practices to get the new faces to gel with each other," Scott said.

The Dragons trailed by as many as nine points in the first half before pulling within 27-24 at the intermission. GFA finally tied the game with 5:45 left in the second half and took control from there.

The Dragons featured excellent ball movement, recording assists on 22 of their 25 baskets.

"We were heavily centered on getting Obi touches in the low post," Scott said. "He did himself well in front of a  contingent of D-1 scouts."

New Haven's Tremont Waters added 11 points and handed out a team-high six assists for the Dragons while Westport's Brian Comey grabbed 11 rebounds.

Laurent Firlotte kept Hopkins in the game with 20 points. Half of his total came from the foul line as he converted 10 of his 16 free-throw attempts
