Ice Cream Shop To Open In Former Westport Sweet Shop Space

WESTPORT, CT — An ice cream shop is opening in the former Saugatuck Sweets space. The new shop, MOMU, will be offering its probiotic floats at the Riverside Avenue location, The Connecticut Post reported.

The new shop will be operated by the owners of Kneads Bakery, which is across the street and opened last year. MOMU intends to find local farmers for milk, fresh fruit, and other ingredients.

The shop plans to open in the spring.

Saugatuck Sweets, a candy and ice cream shop, closed earlier this month after a decade at the location.

Owners Chris and Al DiGuido said in a message to customers that the Westport shop became another casualty of the pandemic.

"In recent years due to the challenging economic conditions and Covid issues, we have determined that it is no longer financially viable for us to keep this business afloat," the DiGuidos wrote.
