Letter To The Editor: We Must Appoint A Special Prosecutor

To the Editor:

The Fairfield County Intelligence Group, consisting of political and civic leaders in our community, strongly support the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the contacts with Russia of President Trump and those of his family, employees, and other business associates, during the 2016 Presidential campaign through the present time.

It is generally accepted that Russia favored President Trump’s election. President Trump has been uncommonly complimentary to Russia’s Putin. One Trump appointee resigned because of his Russian connections; the Attorney General of the United States has recused himself from consideration of sensitive matters related to Russia.

A recent CNN/ORC survey found 71% of Americans ‘very alarmed’ by these events.

Investigations in the House and the Senate, both of which are Republican controlled, will inevitably bear the taint of partisanship. Only an investigation led by a Special Prosecutor of unquestioned integrity and political independence, will assure our nation and the world of the lack of corruption of our President and the electoral process.
