Meet St. Vincent's Physician of the Year

Hartford HealthCare St. Vincent's Medical Center is thrilled to announce that medical oncologist Paul Berard, MD, has been selected to receive the 2025 St. Vincent de Paul Mission Award, honoring the attending physician who best demonstrates the qualities exemplified by Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Louise de Marillac and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, founders of the Daughters of Charity. This “Physician of the Year” is one who truly lives the mission and values of St. Vincent's.

Dr. Berard is being recognized for his tireless efforts to care and advocate for patients using humor to help relieve the stress a cancer diagnosis can bring. His clinical acumen, drive for the best outcomes and compassion were demonstrated in stories shared in nominations, including one describing how he drove a neighbor to the emergency room himself instead of calling an ambulance. Nominations also spoke of his approachability for colleagues seeking clinical guidance and mentorship. He generously shares his knowledge and inspires those around him.
